Jama Masjid in Delhi (India)Jama Masjid is the greatest mosque in India, and definitely the largest, with a courtyard capable of accommodating 25,000 worshipers. Tthe final architectural extravagance of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. It's also known as 'Masjid-i-Jahan Numa', meaning of Jahan is 'World' & Numa means 'Visible'. It is situated some quarter of a mile from the Red Fort in Delhi and at the origin of a very busy central street of Old Delhi, the Chawri Bazar Road. It was designed as Emperor Shahjahan's principal mosque. The sprawling esplanade, which separates it from the arterial road is a fascinating leisure ground.

Construction & Architecture of Jama Masjid(Mosque)
The foundation of the Jama Masjid was laid by fifth Mughal Emperor of India, Shahjahan, on Friday, October 19,1650 AD, (10th Shawwal 1060 AH). The mosque was the result of the efforts of over 5,000 workers, The construction work continued for 7 years.

The vast paved courtyard is a rectangle nearly seventy-five metres by sixty-six metres. The courtyard of the mosque can be reached from the east, north and south by three flights of steps, all built of red sandstone. The northern gate of the mosque has 389 steps. The southern side of the mosque has steps. The eastern gate of the mosque was the rural entrance and it has 774 steps. These steps used to house food stalls, shops and street entertainers. In the morning , the eastern side of the mosque used to be converted into a bazaar for poultry and birds in general.

Jama Masjid was based on the plan and design of Ostad Khalil, the then great Sculptor. Emperor Shahjahan built Jama Masjid at the cost of Rs 10 crore and it can be called as the replica of Moti Masjid in Agra. The premises of the South Minar are 1076-sq-ft wide where 25,000 devotees at a time can be sit together for prayer (namaz).

The first Imam appointed by Emperor Shahjahan. People of other religions are not allowed in between 12-30-2-00pm. One is allowed to enter the mosque bare-footed, head covered.

Dressing restrictions
Wear fully covered clothes since it is a religious place. You will need to cover your shoulders and legs with scarves and lungis (loincloth) available on hire. Tourists are not allowed in from 1215 to 1345 hours or 30 minutes before sunset.

Moti Masjid in Agra(India)Moti Masjid (Mosque) is a located in the premises of the Agra Fort. The Moti Masjid in Agra was built by Shah Jahan. During the rule of Shah Jahan the Mughal emperor numerous architectural wonders were built. Most famous of them being the Taj Mahal.

The architectural design of the mosque similar to the Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. The architectural significance of the mosque is it is built on a land that inclines from east to the northern part of the Diwan-i-Am complex. The mosque is lavishly built with light white marble facing reflecting the style of architecture during Shah Jahan. The courtyard of the Moti Masjid has side arcades and arched recessions and the main sanctuary facade beyond. There are seven bays that are divided into a number of aisles which are supported by piers and lobed arches.

Moti Masjid in Delhi

Moti Masjid is a beautiful mosque in the Red Fort, Delhi. The personal mosque of Aurungzeb, Moti Masjid or Pearl Mosque lies to the west of Hamam. Situated on a higher level than courtyards, the prayer-hall of the mosque has inlaid black-marble outlines of 'musallas' (small carpets for prayers) and is surmounted by three bulbous domes.

The Moti Masjid ( Pearl Mosque) is made up of white marble beautiful It was built by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb at the Red Fort complex in Delhi from 1659-1660.

It is said that these domes were originally copper plated and even the eastern door is plated with copper leaves. The ladies of the seraglio also used the mosque to offer their prayers.
